2nd Annual Dogma Meet-Up - JULY 16th - 19th 2010! |
|
We've finally settled on a date for our 2nd Annual Guild Meet-Up!
Your Hosts: J & Andi
When: July 16th - 19th
Where: Dallas, Tx
What happens at the meet-up?
We hang out and have fun! Last time a lot of booze was involved. We went to a party. We had a BBQ. We played video games. We went to a karaoke bar. We went to an EARLY showing of Transformers 2...
What will happen at THIS meet-up?
More of the same, I'm sure! We have our own Wii. We have friends who have offered their home to us that is complete with an outdoor bar and a pool. We'll probably go out one night or two - perhaps to a local bar or karaoke joint. Whatever will be fun for the majority, we'll do it!
We realize that money is tight for most of us, so we'll do our best to keep our activities as inexpensive or cost-free as possible.
Where can we sleep?
J&A's place...
We've offered up our home to anyone who would like to crash here. J would like to get our converted garage fixed up in hopes of allowing someone to crash there, too. If that doesn't work out, we do have a guest room, a couch and a love seat.
So far, it seems that Stephen and his lady as well as Manny have asked if they can sleep over. We do have ONE bathroom, so we'll all just have to do our best to be fast when we're in there!
Hotels...
Last year we found a hotel that wasn't too far, was decently priced and I hope that accommodations were okay, too. We'd have to ask Manny, Tom and Zack what they thought of the hotel rooms. Those were the Sun Suites in Plano, Tx.
Otherwise, there are other hotels in Allen, where we live. They may be more expensive but they are nicer!
Transportation:
If you are flying in...
You can fly in to either DFW International Airport or Love Field. They are about the same distance from our place.
We're hoping to schedule J's time off to coordinate with the arrival of our guests, so there should be no problem picking you up from the airport/s if need be. This goes for dropping you off at the airport as well.
Around town...
Last year, we used our 4-door Ford Focus, my mom's Ford Escape and my Dad's old Ford Explorer to transport us all around. In most cases, it was a REALLY tight fit.
SO
We are asking everyone who is coming to pitch in at least $20 to help us with a van rental to make our travel around town much easier and more comfortable. We're looking at a 12 passenger van - and Trey has told us that he has a friend who can probably hook us up with a decent deal.
Since it seems a lot of the weekend folks will be drinking, we'd feel more comfortable being the designated drivers. Besides, no sense in having folks get lost in a new town!
What else is there to do?
Six Flags - http://www.sixflags.com/overTexas/index.aspx
It's not too far away if everyone is interested in going. Maybe on that Sunday. Again, we don't want to make folks spend a lot of money, so it really depends on what ALL of you want to do.
Deep Ellum - http://www.yelp.com/biz/deep-ellum-dallas
Back in the day it was *the* spot to go. Tons of different bars and night clubs. These days there are some decent places to eat, tons of tattoo parlors and a few bars/clubs hanging in there. It's a very artsy and edgy district...or rather, it was the last time I was there! There is an eclectic mix of crowds here, from rock to alternative to urban, etc.
West End - http://www.dallaswestend.org/
This is not far from Deep Ellum. It's a more touristy type set up but not necessarily in a bad way. It's fun to go here at night and walk around and stop in at the various clubs, restaurants, etc.
Addison Improv Comedy Club - http://www.symfonee.com/Improv/addison/home/Index.aspx
There are no shows posted for July. We can keep an eye on it, though.
Fossil Rim - http://www.fossilrim.org/visiting/index.php
Something about taking a guided tour in a van to see a bunch of wild animals with you guys just seems RIGHT to me. =p
We didn't get a chance to really show off Dallas last year. If folks are interested, we can definitely go down there and show you around.

I'm so excited!
This year, I'll be sure to have the whole time off. Last year was weird because of family stuff + my company's vacation policy. This year should be a bit easier to work with - and it should only be 2-3 days off.
Our garage conversion is 2 rooms, and it has air conditioning, it's just full of... well... crap. A lot of crap. A lot of crap we never, and will never, use. So I'll be trying to get rid of some of it, organize some of it to make better room, and hopefully find a pull-out sofa or a futon or something on Craigs List to put in there.

I vote for at least one meal - lunch or dinner - to be at Zenna - sushi for those of us who like sushi, thai for those who like thai, japanese for those who like that. Should have something for pretty much anybody, since even those who don't like thai like pad thai :p

Talked to Lane about it last night and we're gonna try to make it. She also wants to try and go to San Antonio for a day or so while we're there, so we might make it a longer trip.

So... we're definitely in. As long as we have the money for airfare and other things, we'll be there, unless your plans change.

Brad, I don't see us canceling this. I mean, regardless of what happens with my health, I know that more than anything I'd like to see everyone this year. More and more, I'm realizing that tomorrow isn't promised to any of us and I'd love to be able to give you all a hug for a first or second or 20th time (depending on who you are) while I still have the chance.
